I'm ashamed to say I didn't know of Rosalind Fox Solomon. Thank you for this piece about her and showing her slightly disturbing images - they seem to be hiding something even though the images are almost offhand and seemingly straightforward.
That’s so interesting — I totally agree. She often chose not to speak to the subjects of her portraits because a dynamic of uncertainty/discomfort seemed more revealing to her; I wonder if perhaps some of that hidden quality comes from her subjects, and the distance from them that she cultivated.
